Two girls' schools in Malvern have joined forces, reports Zeena Lemon

From September, two Malvern schools that have been at the forefront of education for over a century will join forces. Malvern Girls' College and St James's School will amalgamate to form Malvern St James.

The vision is that the new school--based on the Girls' College site--will build on the strengths, values and worldwide reputation of both former schools to provide a first-class educational environment for day and boarding girls.

Headmistress of the new school Rosalind Hayes said: "Having taught in both co-educational and single sex schools, I am clear about one thing, girls learn better in an all-girls environment. My aim is that Malvern St James should be the best possible advertisement of this."

A belief in the importance of the education of the whole person remains central. The emphasis is on developing each individual girl's potential, providing a full and caring education and encouraging a positive response to the wealth of opportunities open to girls in the competitive but challenging world of the 21st century.

Deputy headmistress Sarah Musgrave said: "We are proud of the academic achievements of the two schools. We seek to make learning enjoyable, supplementing traditional approaches with innovative teaching methods, to ensure our students are interested and focused on each subject."

Mrs Hayes added: "I am very excited about creating a school brimful of energy, where all the girls take part, striving to do their best but working in an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement."
