MORE than 80 voices will be heard in Kidderminster Town Hall when two choirs take to the stage in aid of charity next week.

The Kidderminster Valentines will be joined by their guests, the Aber Valley Male Choir and soloist, Kiera Lyness, on Saturday, June 17.

The male choir, which was founded in 1959, has around 50 members and has performed in venues across the country, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

They will be singing Welsh hymns and folk songs, as well as tunes from operas and popular hits including California Dreamin' by the Mamas and Papas.

Valentines members will sing songs from shows including Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar and will join the male choir to perform several joint items, including Morte Christie. Soprano, Kiera, who is originally from Wolverley, studied at Trinity College of Music, London and Utrecht Conservatorium, Holland and is currently living in London.

Kiera has performed in professional opera productions including Cosi Fan Tutte, La Serva Padrona, Hansel and Gretel, Anacron and Barber of Seville.

She last performed with the Valentines in December and her programme will include opera numbers, as well as Mozart's Queen of the Night aria.

Valentines musical director, Pam Cunningham, said the performers were hoping to raise a lot of money and all the proceeds from the concert will be donated to local children's charities.

She added: "The Aber Valley Male Voice Choir have been to Kidderminster before as guests of Kidderminster Male Choir but we have never performed with them before, so we are very much looking forward to it.

"It will be an absolutely fantastic night. I'm sure the atmosphere will be great, as they are a lovely group of fellows and are very warm and friendly. I'm sure there will be a good rapport between the two choirs and we are looking forward to a special evening of entertainment."

Tickets for the concert are available from Judy Morris on 01562 751753, as well as the town hall, Hunters tobacconist and Bewdley Books. Doors open at 7pm.
