FANCY footwork has earned two Wyre Forest performers places at one of the best dance schools in the country.

Grace Hughes, of Stourport and Jimmy Savva, of Bewdley, will both attend the London Contemporary Dance School in September.

The former Stourport High School pupils, who are both studying for a BTEC dance qualification at Kidderminster College, auditioned in March and had to complete several workshops and an interview, as well as performing two-minute solos.

Grace, of Lickhill Road, who will be specialising in South Asian dance, said: "I was really happy when I found out. I had to wait nine weeks for the letter, which was very nerve-racking.

"Dance is always something I've wanted to do. I'm really looking forward to living in London. I can't wait to go, as there is so much going on in the city and I think there will be so many opportunities for me."

She added: "It's a very hard course but it will be worth it and I'm really looking forward to it. You start at eight in the morning and train until six in the evening and at the weekend you are rehearsing for shows."

Her three-year degree course will include a trip to India to watch professional performances and take part in workshops.

The 19-year-old said: "I chose South Asian dancing for a change. I've been doing ballet and contemporary dance for two years so it is the chance to do something different. I really like the performances I've seen."

Grace has her heart set on joining the well-established DV8 Physical Theatre company, which tours across the country, as well as Europe.

She said: "I have really enjoyed the physical theatre part of my college course as it's not only dancing but acting as well. DV8 are the best and I really like the work they have done."

Jimmy, 18, of Riverside North, has been dancing since he was seven and has performed in several performances, both at school and college

His proud mum, Lisa, said he was excited about starting his course, adding: "It's all he's ever wanted so he's really looking forward to going to London. I am so proud and pleased for him. It was his first proper audition so he's done really well."

Before they start their course, the dancers will be performing in the college's summer shows, which take place at the end of the month.
