HUNDREDS of people who live and work in Hereford have already discovered the fabulous food on offer at the Aubrey Street Deli.
Now, as the food-lover's haven celebrates its first birthday, owner Rachel Tobey and shop manager Helen Marlow are issuing a special invitation to mark their milestone birthday.
For just one day - Saturday - everyone who has yet to enjoy a taste of what Rachel and Helen have been creating in the shop's on-site kitchen is invited to come along and sample a selection of their delicious canaps and nibbles, accompanied by a glass of celebratory champagne. Rachel, who trained as a chef in London, returned to her home county when she married Chris Tobey of Brockhampton Court Hotel.
The opening of the Aubrey Street Deli has allowed Rachel to indulge her passion: "I just love food," she says, "and it seemed to me that Hereford was seriously lacking a great deli. This is just the perfect way for me to do what I love in sociable surroundings."
From olives to cheeses, every foodie delight that you'd expect in a delicatessen is here, with new produce constantly introduced as Rachel and Helen visit speciality fine food fairs to bring customers the best that's available.
But there's so much more, as Aubrey Street Deli regulars know.
Having a kitchen on-site allows Rachel and Helen to cook a tempting selection of 'easy suppers', available either from the fresh counter or the freezer - from beef bourguignonne to fish pie, chilli to quiche, salads to stroganoff, with a choice of desserts to follow.
Flexibility is a key ingredient in the successful recipe: "We can cater for dinner parties or functions at relatively short notice, whether for two people, 42 or 102" says Rachel.
Whether you want a three-course meal, a selection of canaps or an informal fork supper, the Aubrey Street Deli will create food to suit your mood.
Rachel may have joined the family behind one of Herefordshire's best known-hotels, but Helen Marlow will also be a familiar face to anyone who eats out in Hereford, having created great food in several of Hereford's restaurants.
"Between the two of us," says Rachel, "we have a wide repertoire of recipes, giving customers the choice they're looking for."
"Once people find us tucked away here," adds Helen "they come back again and again."
And who can blame them, with great home-cooked food to take away, a seasonal dinner party menu that is changed every three months and healthy salads and baguettes available at lunchtime.
Take Rachel and Helen up on their invitation this Saturday and you'll soon be wishing you too had found the Aubrey Street Deli sooner.
