THE Tidal Wave Gallery in Hereford is showing an exhibition of British watercolours from 1780 to 1980.
From its topographical beginnings in the 18th Century - represented in the exhibition by Paul Sandby - a more Romantic approach developed.
A number of the leading artists of the day banded together in 1804 to form the Old Watercolour Society, which is still going strong today although it is now the Royal Watercolour Society, having received a Royal Charter in 1881.
Among the early luminaries of the society were Samuel Prout, Peter de Wint and David Cox - all represented in this show.
In the later Victorian section there are watercolours by William Henry Millais, Samuel Bough and Alfred William Hunt.
The 20th Century includes drawings by Laura Knight and Stanley Spencer, and a small group of animal studies by Arthur Spencer Roberts.
All are for sale and the gallery is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday. For details call 01432 352365.
