ONE of the region's leading truck repair centres is gearing up for the future by investing in a national youth training scheme.
Forward thinking Worcester Truck Services, which is based at Blackpole Trading Estate East, Worcester, has joined forces with Evesham and Malvern Hills College to support its Young Apprenticeship in the Motor Industry programme.
Open to 14-16-year olds in full-time education, the Government-backed initiative, funded by the Learning and Skills Council, combines school with a regular work placement. Participants gain experience in a variety of practical settings over a two-year period and the aim is to enhance skills and encourage students to view the motor industry as a sensible career choice. Fifteen year old Chris Fowler from Elgar Technology College in Worcester, will be the first Young Apprentice to join the team at Worcester Truck Services and general manager Richard Osman is looking forward to his arrival.
Said Mr Osman: "Our business is growing fast and to stay ahead of the competition, we recognise the importance of investing in training. We already have a highly skilled workforce of 10 technicians and five skilled mechanics dedicated to meeting and exceeding customer needs and we're confident Chris will benefit enormously from working alongside them."
And there's no doubt Chris will be learning from the best. Known for its quality service in vehicle fleet maintenance for all makes of light vehicles, trucks and trailers, Worcester Truck Services counts some of the UK's biggest logistics firms amongst its customers, including Excel Logistics, Shop Direct and TM Logistics.
Mr Osman added: "We are committed to recruiting and training the best staff to help us acheive our targets and we hope Chris will be the first of many to join our growing team."
