Businesses in Hereford-shire and Worcestershire are to benefit from a new cutting-edge way of getting their views heard by Government and other policy makers.

The Chamber of Commerce has set up a Virtual Think Tank, which allows businesses in the two counties, no matter what their size, to be part of a large and powerful lobbying body which gets its opinions to those that matter.

The e-mail feedback system enables an open and quick dialogue between the Chamber of Commerce and its members, with a consensus view on concerns and issues are then passed up the chain to Westminster, Brussels and also regional business agencies.

"The Virtual Think Tank is a key element in the lobbying process," said Christopher Harvey, head of policy and representation at the Chamber of Commerce Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

"It allows the Chamber of Commerce to consult with members on issues that affect them, and turn this into a position statement which can be fed back to Government and other regional bodies.

"It means local businesses have influence over identifying and delivering solutions to the issues.

"It has been developed to ensure that the Chamber of Commerce works in the best interests of all its members and allows for a quick response to key issues that affect the local business community."

Virtual Think Tank members will receive one e-mailed questionnaire every two weeks with five or six quick questions about an issue of concern or particular relevance. Members of the Chamber of Commerce Herefordshire and Worcester-shire can write as much or as little as they like.

If specific areas of interest arise, smaller, spin-off Think Tanks will be created to deal especially with those issues.

The Chamber of Commerce will then send members a short summary of the survey results and a position statement that the Chamber will be submitting to Government and other bodies.

There will also be an opportunity for businesses to voice their opinions directly to Ministers, MPs, MEPs and business leaders through regular networking events and meetings.
