Musicians at The Blue Coat School, Edgbaston, have been hitting the right notes with some impressive exam results from the Royal Schools of Music. In an all-time record, 12 instrumentalists gained distinctions at various grades, including three at Grade 5. Top performer James Kuo scored 145 marks out of a possible 150 in a barnstorming cello performance. Ten-year-old James is a Grade 7 violinist and music scholar with the National Children's Orchestra. The children to do well were: Grade 5, James Kuo, cello; Alan Han, piano; Rachel Khan, flute; Grade 3, Nicholas Bleasdale, alto saxophone; Connor Burns, violin; Lydia Kanari-Naish, flute; Sophie Lynn, violin; Junbo Shim, violin; Grade 2, Harry Broom, cello; Grade 1, Naomi Cottam, clarinet; Sam Mawhinney, clarinet and Arpan Sharma on guitar.
