You may have ordered your Christmas turkey, posted your overseas cards and even finished buying presents, but have you remembered to sort out your Christmas wine?

There's nothing more frustrating during that last-minute whizz around a supermarket only to be faced with a choice of wines you have never heard of.

Here is a quick Christmas guide to some real winners from South Africa - from the light and fruity to the deep and intense.

Get organised and spread some extra Christmas cheer the Christmas by treating yourselves to a bottle of Thandi - a very special wine from South African and the first wine to achieve Fairtrade Foundation recognition.

The Xhosa word 'Thandi' means 'nurturing love', which many would say is the real essence of Christmas. But add to that the Gold Medal awarded to Thandi's Chardonnay at the prestigious London International Wine Challenge -- and you've got a choice of wines, including a Pinot Noir, which are not just for the festive season.

These are available from selected supermarkets.

As another suggestion, Arniston Bay wines from South Africa, the name inspired by the beautiful Cape fishing village, are consistently in the British top 20 wines list.

The wonderfully fruity Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay is an ideal companion for smoked salmon, or served on its own as an aperitif, and red-wine lovers will enjoy the intense, medium bodied Arniston Bay Ruby Cabernet Merlot with turkey and ham.

Priced £4.99, more wines from the Arniston Bay range include a Shiraz Merlot and a Pinotage Ros, also available at selected supermarkets and off-licences.

So whatever you choose, be sure at some stage to sit back, pull the cork, pour, inhale, have a slow sip and have time to enjoy a peaceful and Merry Christmas.
