JAMES Burke was the winner of the Stanley Bowl at Broadway.

This popular men's competition attracted a large field with handicaps ranging from two to 28 and the excellent conditions made for some superb stableford scoring.

The winner amassed 45 points, nine below par for the course off a handicap of 16 and he was three clear of closest rival Ian Moreton.

Twelve-year-old James May finished third with 41 points but, had he played off 16 and not 14, then he would have pipped Moreton for second place.

Other results: 4 Rob Lord 41; 5 David Summerfield 40 (cb); 6 Chris O'Hagan 40 (cb); 7 Richard Rouse 40.

The club's senior squad, current holders, progressed to the third round of this year's Gloucestershire Senior Scr-atch Salver after a 2-1 defeat of a strong Thornbury side.

On the same night, Broad-way also made home advantage county to win through a third round tie in the County President's Cup when overcoming Stinchcombe Hill 3-2.
