EASTNOR U15s travelled to the Forest of Dean to take on a strong Parkhill side in their recent league game.

With Parkhill batting first, Eastnor's opening bowlers, Emery and Beale kept things very tight with only four runs coming from the first four overs. After the fall of a couple of early batsmen, the middle order started to lash out scoring quick runs, moving the score up to the 100 mark. Lewis Hodges chipped in with a couple of wickets for only five runs and Tom Powell finished off the tail with two wickets, Parkhill finishing on 122 all out.

The Eastnor batsmen set about their task in a confident mood. Openers Beale and Watkins, scoring 18 and 14 respectively, set the pace, with Emery (22) and skipper Wildig (20) carrying on the good work. With the target score getting closer but overs running out, Febrey and Hodges were keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats. With two runs required off the last ball and with Febrey facing, he picked up a shortish ball to hit a big six to seal an exciting win for Eastnor.

COLWALL U11s made it five wins from five in the Bishop Trophy when they defeated local rivals Malvern by 64 runs.

Batting first on the Regency Road pitch, Colwall made a steady start with openers Arthur Jones and William Micklethwait. Malvern, however, deserved their two early wickets in reply. Bar Bartlett and Jack Cooney then bolstered the innings with Cooney hitting seven boundaries in his score of 31. With Henry Coleman then adding six more boundaries, including two sixes, the score started to mount up. Malvern, however, were rewarded with five more wickets, as Colwall finished on 303.

The Malvern batsmen played sensibly in trying not to lose wickets. Runs were hard to come by and wickets did fall to Joe Crichard, Chris Harwood and two each for Jones and Alex Parker. Malvern finished on 239.

BROMYARD U11s started their season with an excellent 25-run win against Colwall in the East Herefordshire U11s Pairs league.

Colwall made 249 from their 20 overs, Ed Reece picking up two wickets for the home side amongst the six to fall and in reply Bromyard totalled 274, losing just three wickets.

Alex Farmer, Nick Coleman, George Godsall and Ed Reece all made valuable contributions before the last pair, Henry Jones and Ed Hutchinson, defended stoutly to preserve the winning position.

ON Friday Malvern CC hosted the regional heat of the Lords Taverners U11 cricket tournament.

Six teams from the area competed and despite some early showers, a full programme was completed.

Malvern kicked off the competition at 10am with a narrow loss to Worcester Nomads, who in turn were defeated by Old Elizabethans, who subsequently went on to the final.

The second grouping of Worcester, Barnards Green and Dominies & Guilds was a far closer fought affair, each team winning and losing one match each. Worcester, however, gained their place in the final due to a superior average.

In the final, Worcester batted first and amounted an impressive score of 310-2, Tudor and Pearce being the only wicket takers for Old Elizabethans despite some accurate bowling from the whole team, who conceded fewer extras than their opponents. Kitchen (25), Fletcher (19) and Tiree (16) were the pick of the batsmen for Worcester, ably supported by Worthington (10) and D'Oliveira (10).

The Worcester bowling in reply was particularly wayward but the Old Elizabethan batsmen could not take full advantage with only Glass (11) getting into double figures. Two late wickets each from Smith and Tidy reduced the Old Elizabethan reply to 250-5.

Worcester then were worthy winners and progress to the Midlands final in Wolverhampton on July 27.

Dominies and Guilds triumphed over Worcester Nomads in the third place play-off and the long day finished at around 7.30pm after the presentation of medals to all the teams who competed.
