IT was wet with a cold wind blowing as Redmarley WI members left for their visit to Highgrove House, home of Prince Charles.

The weather cleared later and a guided tour of the gardens took them to see the various areas, including the tulip walk and the wild-flower meadow and woodland and the national collection of hostas and hellebores. The visit ended with tea and biscuits in the Orchard House, specially-built for the purpose.

Redmarley Women's Fellowship had a peep behind the scenes at the Palace in a talk given by the speaker at their last meeting and the RNLI benefitted by the sum of £53.

At the annual general meeting of Redmarley Parish Council, held in the village hall, Beryl Cullimore was nominated as chairman and Yvonne Lambert, vice-chairman. The representative for the parish council on the village hall committee continues to be Ann Watkins.

During the parish council meeting, it was reported that the listed application for the Playley Green milestone had been sent to the district council and the result is awaited.

The village hall committee has requested a barrier across the entrance to the playing field, because of the problem of cars driving onto the field. Keys will be issued to groups using the field, who may need to open it in an emergency, and the village hall will also be a key holder.

In spite of the 20mph speed limit imposed, the parish council is receiving a high level of complaints about the speed of vehicles travelling through the village. Concern has also been expressed on the speed of vehicles on the very narrow Red Ditch Lane, with the situation particularly bad during peak periods such as school starting and picking up times.

The parish council asks all drivers to be mindful of the dangers high speeds create for everyone, especially older people and young children.
