IN last week's Journal, 'Comments Cause Row in Village' Michael Gordon-Smith said: "The article was a lovely piece of Irish writing."

However, it was badly researched, full of errors and was untouched by the mainstream of the village.

It was stated that Broadway is a 15th century village. Any local guide book would note that the village gained its charter in 972AD.

The article said that Mr Gordon-Smith was standing for Wychavon District Council. In fact he was contesting a seat for Worcestershire County Council.

With regard to the county council seats, the article reported that the council boasts all of two Labour seats out of 45. In fact the representation were 26 Conservative, 14 Labour and 17 Liberal Democrats and other independents.

There was a slight error about MP Peter Luff. From April 1992 until May 1997 he was MP for the Worcester ward. Since May 1997, Mr Luff has been a constructive member and freely available to all constituents in the Mid Worcestershire ward.

The Evesham Journal keeps its readers fully informed by his activities and his mail bag is efficiently replied for constituents on varying problems.

The article in the Irish Times also failed to mention the Lifford Hall which holds a large number of events in the village, our sporting facilities and the church groups and U3A organisation with over 300 members. This is the mainstream of Broadway.
