TWENTY up and coming bands are to unleash their sounds on Wyre Forest in a musical showcase being staged by Kidderminster College's Mighty Atom Smasher Records.

His Verbal Crusade, Dead Letter Office and Bare Bones are among the line-up being promoted as "titanic heroes who will be kicking rock music into action with radical teen spirit".

Royal Monster King, Sons of Beaches, Vacant Revolution, Kill Train and Otis Coyote are also on the bill for the MAS Records Sonic Boom 5, which will be held at Redwoods Wine Bar.

Otis Coyote guitarist and music industry management student, Dan Hunt, said they would be performing a song inspired by a phone call from a musician friend living in Arizona.

"As it happens, he lives near the railway line that was being used to transport military equipment to Iraq," he said.

"Slow Train To Tucson builds gradually, intensifies and then subsides spectacularly."

He added the band was hoping to get a good live recording of the song and release it in the future.

Josh Terry, guitarist and founding member of fellow band, Sons of Beaches, said his band wanted the audience to feel "as if they are in front of a herd of stampeding elephants".

Bass player, Russ Milton, added: "This is going to be the most intense gig we have ever played. We will take our audience into a trance."

The whole event, which starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 14, will be filmed and recorded by MAS Records.

Other bands playing are Royal Monster King, Absinthe Hangover, Without Hope Or Agenda, Silver Skin, Choke Go Hollywood, White Noise and Andre Kania.

MAS promotion officer, Luke Hatton, said: "The vital aspect of MAS Records is its spirit for inspirational music.

"We want to ensure new local artists can be heard, regardless of genre or production value."

The event will also feature special guests Melo DJ, Rocket Dogs and Edgeway. Paul Jennings, aka The Pig, will compere the night.
