THERE was fun in the sun as Pershore was transformed into a seaside town for its annual carnival.
Apart from a short shower during the fancy dress parade, the weather at Pershore-on-Sea was bright and clear throughout Monday's event.
Dave Shaw, the chairman of the organising committee, said he was delighted to see so many people getting involved. "Nobody let the brief shower spoil their fun - it was just like Pershore people to carry on regardless. We had a good turnout and it looks like we have helped raise lots of money for some very good causes."
Buckets of coins given by the hundreds of people who thronged the street to watch the parade were due to be counted last night. Charities who organised stalls and games on Abbey Park said they were pleased with their takings.
Cash prizes were awarded for the best fancy dress costumes, which were chosen by town mayor Chris Parsons. The winners were the Seale family, Amy Surman, Julia Clough and Eleanor and Gareth Roberts.
Other attractions at the event included a fire station open day, a craft fair in the Town Hall, a dog show, performances by marching bands, a farmers' market on Broad Street, fairground rides and charity stalls on Abbey Park.
