CARAVAN owners in the Vale have been warned to check the security of their vehicles after a spate of thefts.

They are also being told to be wary of buying accessories at car boot sales and other unauthorised outlets.

South Worcestershire police issued the two-pronged alert following four similar incidents between May 17 and 22 at caravan sites where the damage caused and the value of stolen items totalled about £5,000.

At Mendip Caravan Centre in Beckford a £1,050 TV was stolen along with £600 worth of electronic accessories, £118 worth of garden furniture and a number of smaller items.

Two incidents took place in the early hours of May 17 where a £1,000 awning and electrical equipment were among the items stolen. Meanwhile at Leedons Park, Broadway, nothing was taken but £1,000 worth of damage was caused to a washing machine, Fiat car, caravan and a laundry door.

Police spokesman Richard Bull said: "While the stolen items may have been targeted for personal use, it is possible that they could find their way onto the open market. We urge those attending Sunday morning markets and similar events to be wary if they see caravan accessories for sale."
