PEOPLE tempted by bargain-priced laptop computers if they come across them at car boot sales could be buying stolen goods, police have warned.

A total of 124 machines, worth a combined £120,000, were taken from the premises of freight carrier, TNT UK, on Hartlebury Trading Estate.

South Worcestershire police appealed to anyone offered either an Acer or Toshiba laptop from an unusual source to contact them immediately.

A police spokesman said: "There is a strong likelihood that, sooner or later, these items will find their way on to the open market, probably in a number of ways and over a considerable area.

"They may be offered discreetly in pubs and clubs or more openly at events like open-air markets and car boot sales.

"Everyone should be aware that they may be buying stolen property that could be confiscated. They will be far better off by keeping their money in their pockets and helping us with our inquiries by providing crucial information."

Ninety-two Acer computers, worth £90,000, were taken from the TNT site between Saturday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 24, while 32 Toshiba laptops were stolen on Thursday, May 19.

Both offences were reported to police on May 25.
