FIFTEEN members of the Evesham Wheelers took part in Sunday's weekly run out to the Malvern Hills and the Kettle Sings Cafe - a favourite haunt of cyclists.

The A ride enjoyed a brisk run out on busy roads to west of Worcester where some hilly lanes were found culminating in the sapping climb of Croft Bank.

At the Kettle Sings, they were joined by the B riders who had taken a more direct route, alongside with many members of Cheltenham and County Club.

One or two riders managed well over 100 miles by the time they got home including the A leader who visited the traditional stop at Asleworth Quay with a few Cheltenham members on the way home for liquid refreshment.

Brian Newton and Arja Scarsbrook rode the Cycling Time Trials National Ten-Mile Championships at Nantwich where they competed against the cream of short distance riders in the country.

Most riders were up to two minutes short of their qualifying times due to the nature of the rolling course and cold and windy conditions.

Newton and Scarsbrook both returned creditable times of 23 minutes and 13 seconds and 26.47 respectively to win gold medals in their respective age groups.

The club staged its Elmley Circuit Race around Bredon Hill last Wednesday when Martyn Cole clocked the fastest time.

Times: M Cole 42.35; Andy Bolton 43.08; Richard Rhodes 47.39; Les Peglar 47.55; Kathy Pollard 51.23.

This Sunday's run will be to Wootton Wawen, meeting outside Argos in the High Street at 9am for a ride that will cater from beginner to racers.
