PIANIST David Quigley returned to give a superb recital to end the current season.
A demanding programme began with a set of 12 waltzes by Schubert, which are rarely performed and proved quite delightful.
After three popular works by Chopin, the first half concluded with Liszt's epic Vallee d'Obermann, which amply displayed David's immense understanding of the music and well as his formidable technique.
Six Klavierstucke by Brahms opened the second half, which ended with two of Ravel's Miroirs, Oiseaux Tristes and Alborada del Gracioso, which contrasted the sound of birds with the exciting atmosphere of Spain.
Prolonged applause was rewarded with two encores, firstly a Rachmaninov Prelude and then the ever-popular Rustle of Spring.
The evening was made even more pleasurable by the charm and wit with which David introduced the music. What a pity more people did not come to hear him. Hopefully, he will be back soon.
