IN a bid to engage people's interest in recycling, Redditch Council's waste management service has launched a novel scheme in which e-mail bulletins are sent directly to residents' PCs.

A spokesman said the bulletins are packed with useful information on how to reduce the amount of waste people generate, recycle more household rubbish and offers more detail about the recycling process itself.

The e-mail will also feature news on the expansion of the kerbside recycling scheme across the town, the recycling rate for that month, as well as the opportunity to win prizes such as wine glasses made from beer bottles, cosmetic bags made from recycled juice cartons and even fleeces made from old plastic bottles.

Council senior waste management officer Ceridwen John said: "We know from the number of inquiries we get that there are lots of people who want to know more about how to recycle and what happens to the waste.

"The bulletin will be an excellent way of providing that information to a wide range of people at any time, any where.

"The bulletin is being issued via e-mail to save paper but anyone without computer access who would like to receive the bulletin can call me on 534190 for a mail out version."
