SATURDAY afternoon's heavy showers did not deter revellers from joining in the fun at the 18th Astwood Bank Carnival.

Hundreds of residents enjoyed the parade of colourful floats, the host of exciting stalls and entertainment in the marquee.

Carnival publicity officer Graeme Jones: "Despite the weather, we had our normal, very strong attendance and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves.

"However, the events in the main arena had to be cancelled because of the rain. The floor was too slippery and it would not have been safe."

Proceeds from the annual event will go to a range of village causes, including Astwood Bank News, Cookhill Village Hall and Astwood Bank Operatic Society.

Donations will also be made to Worcestershire Macmillan Appeal, Redditch & Bromsgrove Parkinson's Disease Society and the County Air Ambulance.

Parade winners in the float competition were 1, Astwood Bank Scout Group; 2, Astwood Bank First School and 3, Astwood Bank Rainbow and Brownie Group.

In the walkers category, winners were 1, True Heroes; 2, The Mates and 3, Cops & Robbers.

In the vintage competition, winners were 1, Kelly's Heroes; 2 P. Harris and 3, Johnson's Coach.

The prize for best-dressed house went to the Finch family at 1273 Evesham Road, while the overall winners at the carnival was Astwood Bank Scout Group.

A full list of winner is shown in the Post Office in Astwood Bank.
