A SPECIALIST surgeon has joined the team at the town's joint clinic, which is now putting Droitwich Spa on the world map for orthopaedic care.

Melwyn Pereira, a foot and ankle surgeon, will add to the existing team of experts on all things bony at The Joint Clinic.

When it first opened, the clinic, at Orchard House, in St Andrew's Road, was a pioneer within the UK of the 'one team approach'.

Now there are three orthopaedic surgeons, specialising in knee, shoulder and upper limb, hip and lower limb care as well as specialist spinal neurosurgeon.

New patients who suffer from a sports injury, arthritis, or just painful joints, will be dealing with just one team - the original aim of the clinic when it was set up.

The range of treatments available includes hip replacement and resurfacing, plus ligament reconstruction, advanced shoulder and knee surgery - both open and key-hole, and foot and ankle surgery.

Practice manager Susan Williams said: "We are all absolutely delighted with the growth that we are experiencing at the centre.

"It proves to us that there is a clear requirement for such a specialised group of surgeons to work together as one team.

"The appointment of Melwyn Pereira will not only strengthen our team, but confirm that we are a quality and leading group based near the UK's second city."
