A WELL-attended meeting opened with a lively discussion on the control of aphids, slugs, snails and bugs. Regular spraying with sprays containing sunflower oil controlled most pests.
A weak solution of Jeyes Fluid sprayed on the ground and around plants in pots is a good deterrent for slugs and snails, and dusting crown buds with ant powder keeps away earwigs.
The next meeting, on June 8 at 8pm at Shirley Community Centre, Stratford Road, Shirley, will be a quiz night. New members are welcome. For more information, call Albert Round on 0121 681 5038.
