Bromsgrove 280-6
Walmley 286-4
Bromsgrove lose by
six wickets
THE Boars were out gunned by a big scoring Walmley side in the Birmingham and District League Division One on Saturday.
Bromsgrove had set their Birmingham rivals a tasking target of 281 for victory, but an impressive batting display through Walmley's order inflicted defeat on them.
Bromsgrove elected to bat first and Stephen Peters (53) and captain Nick Davies (38) set about providing a solid base.
Despite the duo being dismissed by Ridgeway, New Zealander Nick Edwards (69) and Nick Read (42) increased the run rate for Bromsgrove.
However, Bromsgrove lost their impetus when Edwards was caught by Breakspear off Woakes' delivery.
Julian Court failed to make an impact after he was caught by Prowse off Griffiths.
Nadeem Malik, allocated to Bromsgrove by Worcestershire, added some steel to the Boars with 41 runs.
Richard Barnes (10) and Mark Evenson (3) could not keep the pace going as Bromsgrove finished their 55 overs on 280-6.
However, the Boars' opponents soon found a higher gear with the bat to surpass Bromsgrove's score.
Prowse (57) and Mohammed (75) gave Walmley a strong start with the bat.
Edwards dismissed Prowse, but Breakspear (75) formed a second wicket partnership with Mohammed.
Evenson finally gave his side a much-needed breakthrough when he removed Mohammed, while Bromley retired injured.
Evenson (2-70) bowled Ali (20), but a partnership by N Breakspear (23 not out) and Griffiths (20 not out) ensured Walmley out stripped Bromsgrove's total.
* Bromsgrove were knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Smethwick on May 25.
Smethwick hit 192-4, before Bromsgrove made 121-7.
