INCONSISTENT Droitwich Spa CC slumped to their first defeat of the season in the Worcester League Division One, as they lost to Alvechurch and Hopwood by six wickets on Bank Holiday Monday.
Droitwich, who had beaten Chaddesley Corbett on the previous Saturday, won the toss and captain Steve Walsh opted to bat first.
Gary Cartwright's powerful batting (37) raced Spa to 24 in four overs but fellow opener Josh Staines was bowled out by former Sri Lankan international Premanath Lakshitha.
Droitwich's good start faded away as their order collapsed, with Jerome Connor and Ian Cottrill out cheaply.
Richard Ferley (37) and the captain were struggling for runs off the miserly Lakshitha and Droitwich, who at one stage did not score for six overs, ground to a halt.
However, Walsh managed to battle his way to 73 as Droitwich recorded a score of 186.
Droitwich's bowlers though struggled to make in-roads into Alvechurch and their neighbours made 187-4.
