Shrewsbury 209-8

Bromsgrove 117 all out

Bromsgrove lose by 92 runs

BROMSGROVE suffered a second defeat of the weekend on Bank Holiday Monday.

After defeat at the hands of Walmley on Saturday the Boars had been hoping to bounce straight back.

However, a poor performance with the bat damaged captain Nick Davies' hopes of a vital victory.

Davies and Nick Husbands restricted their Shropshire opponents in the early overs, but it was Kish Patel who made the breakthrough.

The all rounder removed Anders (59), Gale (60), Mullans (6) and Davies (15) rip the heart out of Shrewsbury's batting order.

Husbands then picked up tail enders Merrick (2) and Shantry (13).

Patel took 4-65, while Husbands picked up 3-70 as Shrewsbury fell to a catchable 209.

However, the Boars batting order were unable to make an impact.

Julian Court (4) was an early victim as he was dismissed by Mullins.

Nick Edwards' (18) confident display did not yield a lot of runs, whole Tom Green was out for a duck on his debut for Bromsgrove.

Richard Barnes was dismissed by Foster's first ball to him, as Bromsgrove's batting order crumbled.

It was up to Bromsgrove's captain (38) to steady the order while wickets tumbled around him.

Mark Evenson (20) did his best to make an impact, but once he was caught and bowled by Foster Bromsgrove offered little resistance.

Patel (14) tried in vain to stage a fight back, but once he was dismissed Bromsgrove stumbled to a slender total of 117.

Davies said: "The batting was not good enough. Our fielding put us in a strong position, but our batting really let us down. It's just a shame because we had put ourselves in a very strong position. I'm looking for a big response from the lads in our next game."

Bromsgrove go to Sutton Coldfield on Saturday (1pm start).
