TRAVELLERS in Studley could be served with a legal notice to move on after all, despite original doubts over whether it could be infringing their human rights.

Residents living to the east of the village in the Castle Road area have become increasingly concerned at Warwickshire County Council's lack of success in getting the travellers moved.

The travellers set up camp at the beginning of the year on the bend near the church, but later moved nearer the village.

Last month, the county council issued a statement saying: ''Both the courts and the Government expect us to be able to show that we have investigated whether the need for eviction outweighs the harmful impacts on the travellers.

''A recent test case involving Leeds City Council, now on its way to the House of Lords, has been a sharp reminder of the rights of travellers and how expensive it can be for the taxpayer if councils get it wrong.''

But this week the council said it had started legal proceedings after all, due to be heard in court on Tuesday.

A county council spokesman said: "If successful, the matter is in the hands of the courts and the bailiffs and enforcement is usually expected within one to two weeks."
