JUST days after picking up a top award, Redditch United winger Simon Hollis has walked out on the Nationwide North club.

But manager Rod Brown has moved quickly to line-up a replacement with former Cheltenham Town striker Chris Murphy at the top of his 'wanted' list.

Hollis has linked up with Conference side Tamworth but Brown believes it is the wrong move for the wideman.

"I think it is a bad move for Simon," Brown explained. "Their manager Mark Cooper is not a confidence manager and that's what Simon needs.

"He is a good player but has a lot of flaws in his game. One of them is his workrate and I fear he could be found out at that level.

"Simon is a player who needs space to run into and he'll find that that space just isn't there in the Conference.

"He has the potential but he is not ready yet."

Hollis collected the Players' Player of the Year trophy at the awards night last month but was the only member of the squad missing from United's pre-season gathering when Brown unveiled his six new signings.

The Redditch manager has spoken to two players about a potential move for the Valley Stadium but it is Murphy who tops his shopping list.

"He is straight from the old school," Brown said. "He has electric pace to go past players and scores his fair share of goals.

"I saw him when he was on loan at Telford towards the end of the season and he was impressive."

Murphy was sent on loan to both Telford United and Stafford Rangers before being released by Cheltenham at the end of the season. He is believed to have spoken to a number of clubs and will make his decision when he returns from holiday in two weeks.
