IT was another successful day for Worcester Triathlon Club's junior members racing into two events at Gloucester and Tewkesbury.

The first event of the day was Tri Team Gloucester's Children's Triathlon, held at Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester.

Competitors were faced with a swim in the school's indoor pool before cycling various numbers of laps around the school playing fields and finishing with a fairly gruelling out- and-back lapped running course on the same fields.

Racing in the Tristar One age category (9/10), Tegan Parsons finished third in 15 minutes 31 seconds.

Callum Tustin, racing in the massively competitive Tristar Three category (13/14), finished strongly in seventh place, recording one of the fastest run splits for his category.

The second event of the day was the Senior Tewkesbury Tri Club Sprint Triathlon, held at Tewkesbury Swimming pool and rugby club. The event comprised a 400m pool swim, followed by a 22 kilometre bike course and finishing with a 5km run.

Competing in the open category were juniors Dan Keen and Rune Dige. In only their second senior race, both produced superb performances.

Keen, 16, pulled out all the stops to finish second overall in a time ofone hour, three minutes and three seconds and Dige, 15, finished strongly in fourth position overall in 1-04-37.

Their run times were the second and third quickest of the day and, with their bike experience still only in the very early stages, their bike split times of fourth and eighth overall were also very impressive.

Both are now looking forward to representing the West Midlands Youth Academy in the inter-regional aquathon scheduled for June 4 in Nottingham.

Also taking part in the Tewkesbury Triathlon race was Phil Parsons, who excelled himself by winning the senior race easily, recording a time of exactly one hour.

Parsons was using this race as part of his training build up in preparation for an Ironman race in Nice, France, in four weeks time.

The club almost dominated the top three places in the race with Parsons first, Keen second and Dige fourth.

New member to the club, Stuart Powell, also won the novice section of the race.

Disappointingly, only one club member competed in the National Tri Spring Championship, held at Redditch in the Arrow Valley Park.

The race was a 750m open water swim, 20km open road bike and a 5km circuit run in the park.

Over 400 competed which included 100 ladies. The club's lone competitor, Roz Townsend-Hope, finished in a creditable fourth position in her age category of 50 to 54 years.
