BARNARDS Green Singles gained maximum WCL division five points in this rain-interrupted match when they defeated Hallow by 73 runs.

HALLOW v BARNARDS GREEN SINGLES

The Singles were asked to take first knock on the Hallow track that gave the bowlers plenty of help. Wheeler made light of the wicket hitting three boundaries in the first over but he was quickly undone by one that reared sharply.

Freeman and Curtis made steady but unspectacular progress but at 46-1 after 19 overs the heavens opened and everyone took shelter for the next two hours.

On the resumption the Green had 10 more overs and Hallow had one less player. Freeman quickly departed for 20 but the impetus was generated by a Metcalfe masterpiece. Some superb controlled hitting had the scoreboard rapidly advancing. His four-over knock yielded 39 runs and posted the 100 for the Green. Curtis (35no) remained steering the ball all round the wicket and a cameo performance from White (20no) saw a total of 150 on the board. The 10 overs after the resumption had yielded 104 runs.

Hallow started well as the Green bowlers failed to utilise the wicket and full tosses disappeared to all parts. It took a brilliant run-out from Metcalfe to stem the flow and when Brown pitched one, he bowled the dangerous Brookes for 24.

Hallow kept up with the required rate with some lusty hitting but Brown (3-36) struck twice more aided by a superb catch from skipper Ratcliffe. Beavan replaced the luckless Spiers and he quickly mopped up the tail. His four overs brought three wickets for ten runs.

With two Hallow players absent and one injured the Green secured the maximum points available.
