WITH reference to the car that drove into the wall of the house near us on Thursday last week, I am surprised that something like this has not happened sooner.

I have lived on Comer Gardens for two-and-a-half years now, and although we knew the road was a main road when we bought it, we had not reckoned on it being used as a racing track.

I appreciate that the circumstances of Thursday's accident were a little different, but on a daily basis we have to put up with speeding drivers using this 30mph road as a cut through to the by-pass, a back route into St John's, and for many other shortcuts.

Many buses are no better. They regularly travel well in excess of 30mph, causing our house to vibrate as they pass by. Double glazing has done little to improve this. They appear to have little thought for car drivers, often swerving around parked cars with no regard for whose right of way it may be.

Both Comer Gardens and Fern Road are well used by school children, (my daughter is due to join them in September, when she moves to Christopher Whitehead's), and other pedestrians. They too have to negotiate these speeding drivers in order to cross the road safely.

I say to the council, it's not the road that needs to be looked at, but the way some idiots use it - how long before a serious, if not fatal accident?
