I WOULD like to thank all those who voted for me in the General Election on May 5, and the many people who came forward to support my campaign.
I was delighted that we made progress both nationally and locally. We gained the highest vote in Mid-Worcestershire since the formation of the Liberal Democrats in 1989.
It is interesting to note that the Liberal Democrats gained 40 per cent of the vote in the Wychavon area in the county council election, only 8 per cent behind the Conservatives but 30 per cent ahead of the Labour.
We are on target to regain control of Wychavon District Council in 2007. The latest ill-considered changes to the refuse collection scheme has again hit pensioners, but has done little to increase the recycling of green waste. It is high time this arrogant and penny pinching Tory Executive on Wychavon was replaced.
MARGARET ROWLEY,
Leader of the Opposition,
Wychavon District Council.
