THE Malvern U16 Pirates have donated £1000 to Malvern RFC as a token of goodwill and thanks for the past 35 weeks of rugby at Spring Lane.
The money was collected from the sale of teas, coffees and bacon butties on Sunday mornings by the parents of the U16s, who took control of the kitchen in September 2004 as a means of funds to support the Pirates tour to Italy at the end of the following month.
Receiving the cheque from Cathy Morgans, who headed the team of cooks, Malvern RFC chairman Peter Doran said that the money would be put to good use.
It would be used to help the development of segregated changing areas for the club's youth teams and the Malvern Angels women's rugby team who will be sharing the changing facilities on Sundays at Spring Lane from next September.
The donation has brought the total amount of funds raised by the club for the project to £2,500. This leaves a further £2,500 to be raised by donations or fundraising events such as the club's Community Fun Day which will be held on July 2.
