A WELLAND couple who first met as school pupils are celebrating 60 years of marriage.
Stuart and Heather Hill first noticed each other on the train, while travelling to Worcester. Stuart was a prefect at the Royal Grammar School and Heather was at technical college.
Months later, the couple were partnered at dance lessons in Malvern and romance blossomed.
"I was trying to get him to have a right foot as well as a left one," said Heather, "We've danced ever since."
The couple were married at Christ Church, Malvern, on May 29, 1945, while Mr Hill was home from Burma, on leave from the army.
They honeymooned in Brighton and enjoyed dancing at the Pavilion.
On their return, they moved to Pickersleigh Grove and went on to have two daughters, Patricia and Hazel and a son, Mervyn.
Mr Hill later became a civil servant and the family moved to Hong Kong. They moved back to Welland in 1982.
Asked the secret of their happy marriage, Mrs Hill said: "You have to have a sense of humour." "And do what you're told!" added her husband.
