A SEPTEMBER date has been fixed for a trial arising out of a drowning in a Malvern Hills quarry.

Yunus Ismail Moola, aged 17, drowned while swimming in the lake at Gullet Quarry in June 2001.

He was with a party of students from the Central Technology College, Gloucester, who were taking part in an end-of-term outing.

At a hearing in March at Worcester Crown Court, Andrew Gregory Charles Barker, aged 54, of Cotswold Avenue, Cirencester, pleaded not guilty to two counts of failing to take proper care of students in his charge.

At the same hearing, the college governors pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to make sure the pupils were not at risk. The hearing was then adjourned for a pre-trial review.

Now a date has been fixed for the trial, which will take place on Monday, September 26, at Worcester Magistrates' Court.
