The flower festival weekend raised a total of £2,700, to be shared between the church and the parish hall. On Friday night, the Greenwood Voices delighted their audience with a varied programme including Leaning On A Lamppost, Lilli Marlene and Everytime We Say Goodbye. Jack Mason, who provided the exhibition with detailed memories of the village 1939-45, also captivated the audience with amusing anecdotes of village life.

Following a ration book supper of sausage and sultana casserole and vegetable pie, the sing-a-long provided a rousing end to the evening with a finale of There'll Always Be An England, Land Of Hope And Glory and Jerusalem.

On Saturday morning, a peal of bells opened the flower festival. Gill Andrews would like to record her thanks to all the flower ladies who arranged the wonderful displays. The 'Home Front' was the most challenging theme to date, calling for great skill and imagination. Thank you also to all the helpers before and on the day, including villagers who lent items for the display, from an authentic wheelbarrow to an army uniform. Your support in providing refreshments over the two days was much appreciated by Liz Clutterbuck.

The parish hall provided an ideal venue for the War Years exhibition, mounted by Lynne Ardrey and Peter Young. They would also like to thank everyone who lent their precious memorabilia and recorded their recollections. The files of reminiscence are to be kept as a permanent archive of this critical time and they would be glad to receive accounts of any more memories that come to mind. It was a great privilege to hear some of the stories at first hand and a number of old friendships were renewed over a cup of tea, with much reminiscing of Bosbury in the 1930s and 40s.

The Arts and Craft exhibition at the Old Boys' School, organised by Nora Beavan, included contributions from the children at Bosbury School, as did the 'Evacuees' floral display in the church. Inspite of the weather, the plant stall proved very popular, raising £400. Once again, your contributions were appreciated. The Songs of Praise on Sunday evening, led by The Rev. Sue Strutt and The Rev. Nicky Seabright, was the final celebration of a memorable Trinity weekend.

The flower displays will remain in the church for as long as possible, also a copy of all the submissions received, recalling memories of The Second World War.

A Choral Evensong takes place on Sunday (May 29), at Holy Trinity, Bosbury, at 6.30pm. This will be a joint service for the five Hop Churches.
