THE leader of Wyre Forest District Council is set to be given a top post on the new-look Worcestershire County Council.

Stephen Clee will be put forward as the cabinet member for corporate services at today's meeting of the county council, the first since the May 5 election.

He is expected to be voted in unopposed.

The cabinet is the decision-making body of the council and is expected to be made up of seven Conservatives.

The previous cabinet - which made the decision to make Wyre Forest adopt a primary and secondary school set-up in 2007 - consisted of 10 councillors from the main political parties.

Mr Clee, who represents Chaddesley at county and Bewdley and Arley at district, said: "I am delighted to accept George's offer to join him on the county council cabinet. It is good for Wyre Forest district taxpayers that they have a senior local councillor in the cabinet."

The only Wyre Forest councillor on the previous cabinet was John Gordon, for Health Concern, who stepped down for the election.

The party retained one of its six seats at the polls.
