AN exciting evening of music in Evesham will be providing locals with some special entertainment and raising money for sick children at the same time.

The Still Time Jazz Band from London are getting together with West End singing sensation Lindsey Danvers for a Sounds of Summertime concert which is being staged in Evesham's All Saints Church on June 4.

The town's own Avonbank Brass Band, as well as its up-and-coming Training Band, will also be providing some seasonal sounds.

The concert will be raising money for Noah's Park, a summer camp being held in June and July for children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The park will be sited near the sea in Cornwall to take advantage of the Atlantic breeze. Many of the children who come will be orphans and most suffer from cancer, leukaemia, and other illnesses linked to the radiation which still pollutes their homeland.

Uncontaminated fresh food and drink is still hard to find and the region is still economically poor and lacking in health care resources, says The Ark Trust charity. But removing children from their polluted environment can reduce a quarter of the radiation in them and for every 30 days they are in a healthy environment, it can extend their lives by two years.

At the camp in Cornwall this year, it is planned to stage a special Evesham Day to unite Vale fund-raising with the children as well as their Cornish hosts.

Tickets for the concert are £10 each and are available from The Almonry Museum, Evesham Travel Centre, Phoenix Books, Raphael's Restaurant, That Camera Place and Wyedean Wholefoods. In Broadway, head to The Bindery Gallery or The Tourist Information Centre for a ticket, or in Pershore, visit Blue or Costcutter.
