THE Federation of Recorded Music Societies' secretary, Tony Baines, presented a programme entitled "Something to Write Home About", depicting some of the places he had travelled to, and various incidents which occurred on these visits.
A little railway in the Pyrenees was remembered with music by Villa Lobos, and a French band playing on St James's feast day in Spain was recalled with Roses of Picardy played on a cornet.
Joachin Turina's Torero's Prayer was chosen to depict the funeral of a bullfighter in Madrid, and Chrysanthemums by Puccini followed, the first half ending with the first movement of Dvorak's Eighth Symphony.
The second half comprised memories of Verona with the Prologue from Berlioz's Romeo and Juliet, and Florence with Respighi's Three Boticelli Pictures. The programme ended with Walking the Dog by George Gershwin, and, remembering Paris, Offenbach's Can Can.
