I WRITE regarding the dispute between Wesley Methodist Church, Stourport, and some of the residents of Parkes Quay, which has resulted in potential additional costs of around £7,500 for the restoration of their church in Parkes Passage (Shuttle/Times & News, May 19) .

We have resided in this area for many years and were two of the first residents to move into Parkes Quay. We want to distance ourselves totally from the actions of some of our fellow residents in their dispute with the church.

There have been no meetings to discuss, let alone agree, on the actions fellow residents have taken, initially blocking access to the church's crane and then entering protracted legal discussions before eventually allowing access.

Whatever benefits these residents think they have obtained by their action cannot possibly compensate for the ill will that has been generated with our neighbours and in the community generally.

The whole situation has now become a total embarrassment, to say the least.

Without a meeting to voice our opinions we were unable to stop these actions or persuade fellow residents of their futility.
