THE trial of a disabled Wyre Forest man accused of sex attacks on a 14-year-old schoolgirl has been halted at Worcester Crown Court.

Judge Michael Mott discharged the jury on the second day so that more medical evidence could be called by the defence.

Michael Bowen, 62, of Rectory Lane, Rock, near Bewdley, had pleaded not guilty to two charges of indecent assault. He was bailed for a new trial date to be fixed.

The girl had claimed that he had sexual intercourse although medical examination proved she was a virgin.

He maintained he was unable to have sex because of a motorcycle accident that left him disabled.

Bowen allegedly touched her breasts and used her private parts for "sexual gratification", said David Iles, prosecuting before the trial was halted. He claimed Bowen carried out one assault on a kitchen table.

Bowen denies two counts of indecent assault.

The defendant, who needs sticks to walk after being disabled for many years, had shown kindness to the naive victim at first but his attitude changed, the jury heard.

Mr Iles said Bowen had been prescribed Viagra by his doctor and "got through quite a lot" of the drug, which is used to treat impotence.

The doctor confirmed it was for penile dysfunction but Bowen was adamant he was given it to control incontinence at night.

The teenager used the expression "sexual intercourse" to police, said Mr Iles, but a medical examination proved she was still a virgin.

She complained to a friend in March last year and Bowen was questioned.

Bowen told police he had been unable to have sex all his life because of the crash.

He denied any offences and accused the girl of inventing her allegations.

Mr Iles told the jury they had to decide if she had been "abused as a sexual plaything". Bowen's physical problems did not stop sexual misbehaviour.

The prosecutor added: "There is no question of consent from the girl because of her age. She voiced her unhappiness and had no motive to tell lies."
