A DRINK-drive teenager led police on a two-and-a-half mile chase, which ended when he crashed into a roundabout on the outskirts of Stourport.

Sparks shot from Adam Neal's Renault Megane after a tyre came off and he continued driving on the wheel rim.

He was driving erratically when police took up the chase on the A449 near the Mitre Oak, Crossway Green. He was followed until crashing at the Parsons Chain island.

Neal, 19, of Lorne Street, Stourport, was sent to detention for 19 months and disqualified from driving for three years. His car was also confiscated.

He admitted dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, with excess alcohol and without insurance.

After hitting the traffic island, Neal reversed into the police car in a bid to escape, said Peter Tooke, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court.

Officers had to smash the windows of his car with batons to enable them to arrest him.

His breath-alcohol reading at the police station was 75 microgrammes in 100ml. The legal limit is 35.

Joanna O'Shea, defending, said Neal had taken painkillers as well as alcohol. He had gone to Worcester to sort out access to his child and was emotionally upset.

Recorder Amjad Nawaz said Neal had disregarded previous court orders and his reckless driving could have caused serious injury, if not death.
