A ROUTINE inspection led to the successful prosecution of a Kidderminster market stall holder for trade mark infringements.

Kevin Chamberlain pleaded guilty at the town's magistrates court to selling counterfeit clothing from his stall near the Swan Centre.

Chamberlain, of Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield, was fined £1,800 and costs of £1,000 after being charged under the Trade Marks Act 1994.

Worcestershire County Council's trading standards officer was inspecting the Swan Centre when the fake clothes were noticed on the nearby stall.

Almost 500 counterfeits of high profile brands, including Burberry, Adidas, Disney, Versace and Von Dutch, were being sold as the genuine articles.

Trading standards enforcement officer, Andrew Wright, said: "The sale of counterfeit goods is a serious criminal matter which has an impact on those businesses who trade legally.

"Traders have a responsibility to ensure that the items they sell are genuine products."
