SIX new volunteers have been recruited by an organisation which helps support young families across Wyre Forest.

Home Start Wyre Forest offers a free confidential service to families with children under five.

The volunteers, who are all parents and have completed a course of training, will visit families in their own home to offer friendship, support and practical help.

Chairman, Diane Kingston, said: "We are delighted to welcome six new volunteers to Home Start Wyre Forest.

"This brings our current total of volunteers up to over 55 and means we can help more local families."

Parents of young children can have a range of issues they might want help with, including isolation, illness, disability or difficulties managing children's behaviour.

Belinda Sherry, senior co-ordinator, said: "Having someone to talk to and someone to lend a hand can make a real difference to local parents. Our volunteers are all ages and from all walks of life."

She added: "They all complete a 40-hours course of preparation and provide references."
