ONE of Kidderminster Harriers' summer transfer targets has expressed an interest in joining the club but warned: "I can't afford to hang around for ever."

Defender Trevor Challis is high up Stuart Watkiss's wanted listed following his release from Shrewsbury Town.

But although Watkiss has spoken to the former QPR and Bristol Rovers full back, the current power struggle has prevented him from offering Challis a definite deal.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old defender is weighing up an alternative offer from Weymouth.

The Conference South outfit have been able to beat Harriers' provisional personal terms and also offer Challis a relocation fee to move from his Bristol home.

"I've had a chat with Stuart and I know he's having a bit of trouble with his budget, to put it mildly," said Challis. "Kidderminster is a club I'd love to come to but I know they've got to sort out their finances first.

"He's said he'd like me to come down and help him defensively and he's just asked me for a little more time.

"It's something I'm seriously considering but I can't afford to hang around forever because I've got a young family and a mortgage to look after."

Challis has sympathy for Harriers' plight having been on Telford's books when they went bust at the end of the 2003-04 season.

"I've been through this kind of uncertainty before and it's not nice," added Challis, who is set to ring Watkiss later this week to find out the latest situation."
