KIDDERMINSTER Victoria's hopes of a hat-trick of Birmingham League victories were washed out when their division one clash with Dorridge was abandoned due to rain.

The game started in bright sunshine with KVCC skipper Jonathan Wright winning his third toss in a row and putting the visitors in.

Dorridge began well with 43 runs from the first 10 overs. With last week's match-winner Ted Baylis absent the opening bowlers were Craig Jennings and Warren Irvine.

Irvine had conceded 26 runs from five overs when he was relieved by Mark Mansell. Jennings' eight overs cost 23 runs, but his replacement, Marc Derrick did well.

Dorridge had reached 63 after 20 overs but had lost a wicket. Opener Hokin was leg before to Mansell having scored 41 of his sides 61 runs.

It got better for the Chester Road men when Mansell struck again with only two more runs added. Waquar Mohammed was caught by Divan Van Wyk for 14.

The weather was not looking as good now and another wicket fell with the scoreboard reading 79. Marc Derrick drew Sohail Mahammed into giving Wright a catch.

With the run-rate having been been brought down considerably KVCC were finally forced off for rain. It never relented and the game was finally abandoned at 5.10pm

Mansell had conceded only 22 runs, taking two wickets, from his 12 overs, with Derrick bowling very economically, taking one wicket for 17 off his nine overs.

KVCC entertain table-topers Water Orton at CHester Road next Saturday, before travelling to Stratford on Bank Holiday Monday. Both games start at 1pm.

Result: KVCC v Dorridge. Dorridge 94-3 (34 overs) abandoned due to rain.

KVCC 6 points Dorridge 5 pts

l The rain also robbed KVCC's Birmingham League seconds of a possible victory in the 2nd XI Premier League.

Having bowled out Halesowen in the 50th and final over with some magnificent bowling by David Bannister (6-85 off 15 overs), Kiderminster lost wickets.

But Andy Morley was in good form with the bat with 67 not out and with 30 overs remaining the required 62 runs must have been a possibility.

They are third in the table

Result: Halesowen 187 all out KVCC 2nd XI 126-5.
