LAST weekend was the final one in the Tewkesbury Pool League's season and all competitions now have a winner.

As always it was the Team Knockout Trophy Final that took centre stage and, with the top two finishing sides in the league locking horns, it promised to be a fitting climax.

League champions Nomads were seeking a league and cup double but they had no easy task against the Bush Cutters at King John's Tavern.

They started well enough building up a 4-1 lead through winning racks from Mark Aspey, Josh Craze, Barry Organ and Nigel White.

Cutters finally managed to register back to back racks and, led by captain Gary Francis, finally found some form and turned the match on its head to lead 5-4 as Corin Hayes and Andrew Paginton recorded wins.

Aspey replied for the Nomads and then took his second win to level the scores 5-5 before captain Ady Williams put his side ahead again.

Almost inevitably, after three tense racks, the scores ended level at 7-7 with just one to play and it was Josh Craze who proved to be the matchwinner with some careful tactical play and a double on the black to claim the win and league and cup double.

The ladies Singles saw Anika Collins (Formula 1) narrowly defeat Emma Aston (Renegades) to claim a title she last won in 2000.

In the three-man team final, Aspey and Glyn and Josh Craze took yet another title for the Nomads when defeating Paul Cunningham, Gareth Paginton and Paul Halling 5-3.

The individual averages winner this year for most consistent performer throughout the season goes to Phil Thorne (Hayward's Army) who won 50 out of 63 games for a 79.37 per cent average.

He was closely followed by Ian Cooper (Nomads) and Josh Craze (Nomads) in joint second while the leading lady in the averages was Carol Summerell (Hayward's Army).

The league's annual general meeting and presentation of prizes will take lace on Sunday, June 5 at King John's Tavern starting at 7.30pm.
