RAIN fell at the wrong time last weekend and both afternoon games at Broadway were washed out by the torrential downpours that flooded the green.

There were other games for the club prior to the weekend washout when they progressed to the next round of the EBA Top Club Competition and the Lincoln 2 Fours.

Unfortunately, their interest in this year's Vernon Turner Cup ended at Gilt Edge.

Broadway travelled to HDA in Redditch last Thursday evening for the EBA Top Club competition and came away 4-1 winners winning all games except the Two-wood Singles.

Dennis and Richard Hall were again convincing winners of the Pairs 26-15, while Colin Cooper got off to a flying start in the Rinks and was 19-5 up after seven ends and never looked back.

Mark Rainbow pulled away in the closing stages to win the Triples comfortably 18-7 while Andrew Walters easily won his the Four-Wood Singles contest.

In the Vernon Turner Cup, Broadway had a difficult away draw against Gilt Edge from Kidderminster.

In what was always going to be a difficult tie, the visitors only managed to win on one rink out of four and went down by 18 shots.

Rainbow again won defeating Eric Marks 24-13, while Paul Speake only lost on the last end to Rob McCaughtrie 17-15.

Mark Sandoz was on top form for Gilt Edge and brought his rink home by 28-16 against Colin Cooper. Malcolm Oldnall, meanwhile, was too strong for Andrew Walters who lost 32-16.

Broadway A entertained Che-ster Road in Monday's Lincoln 2 Fours competition and won on both rinks to secure a 13-shot victory.

Speake won a close game against Keith Crisp 17-14 while Cooper again got off to a flying start and was 14-3 up after eight ends before going on to win 21-11 due to the excellent foundations laid by his front end of Mick Aubrey and Steve Aldren.
