YOUNGSTERS at a primary school were enthralled as a top children's author dropped in on them to launch her new book.
Edinburgh-based novelist Nicola Morgan's visit to Colwall Primary School earlier this week was as part of a tour of the country to celebrate the release of her new children's novel Chicken Friend.
The book is about making and keeping friends and Mrs Morgan spent about an hour talking to the youngsters about her experiences as an author, before answering questions.
It was also an emotional day for the school Year 6 teacher Evelyne Knights - who used to teach with Mrs Morgan in a London school between 1984 and 1986 and had not seen her for about 15 years.
"Nicola was excellent and spoke very clearly, answering the children's questions very well," said headteacher Paul Chambers.
"They were really motivated and we were really glad to have a real author in school - especially someone releasing a new book.
"Hopefully it'll inspire some of them to be writers and authors."
