THE Great Britain Federation's National Floorball Championship final was played at Chester's Northgate Arena last Saturday when a couple of local clubs were in action.

Campden Dragons, a team formed mainly of pupils from Chipping Campden School and their families, had earned their place on the big stage following a qualifying tournament in Glenrothes.

When automatic qualifiers Vipers and first reserve Dundee were unable to attend, the Dragons stepped in.

They suffered the expected trio of defeats, but were far from disgraced. Thames Valley Tornadoes gained revenge for a drawn game in Scotland with a 6-0 victory.

Kirkcaldy-based Chapel could only win 7-1 with Alex Perez on target for the Cotswolds side.

The third match against Cotswold Cobras saw ten goals conceded, but two scored courtesy of Micky Beasley and Josh Baker.

Dragons went on to lose 5-0 to Balwearie in a play off for seventh place.

Cobras, meanwhile, had tied 2-2 with a strong Chapel side, who were North Lea-gue winners, as well as scraping a 1-0 win over Tornadoes.

In the semi-final Cobras had one or two scares before disposing of Glenrothes 2-0 and book another date against Chapel who had defeated the defending champions

Unfortunately, the final wasn't a good advertisement for the game as Chapel tried to unsettle Cobras with some hard challenges.

This had worked in their last meeting in the final, but Cobras have completely shed their 'bad boy' image and maintained an extremely high level of discipline despite severe provocation.

Cobras scored two quick and well-worked goals through Teemu Oittinen and Joakim Oberg before Craig Girvan pulled one back.

Chapel then suffered two two-minute penalties, but still survived to half-time.

Oittinen, the tournament's top scorer, worked his magic again at the start of the second half when Chapel indulged in rough house tactics and had two players sent to the penalty bench.

Giles Derrington took advantage of the open spaces and lifted a shot high into the net to complete a 4-1 success and, after years of trying, the Cobras were finally crowned British champions.
